Prescribing & Treatment Policy

Your Safety Comes First

At MVCNP, we understand that pain, anxiety, and other symptoms can be difficult to manage. Our goal is to listen, understand what you are experiencing, and help you find the safest treatment option.

Medications We Do Not Prescribe

MVCNP does not prescribe opioid pain medications (narcotics). This includes medications such as:

  • Oxycodone
  • Hydrocodone
  • Morphine
  • Fentanyl
  • Codeine
  • Tramadol

We also generally do not prescribe medications with a significant risk of misuse or dependence, including certain benzodiazepines and stimulant medications.

If You Need Stronger Pain Relief

If your pain is severe and you feel you may need an opioid or another controlled medication, we encourage you to seek in-person medical care at an Emergency Department or appropriate urgent care facility.

This allows a healthcare team to examine you in person, determine what may be causing your symptoms, provide testing when needed, and discuss the safest treatment options.

You deserve to have your pain taken seriously. Our policy is not intended to dismiss your symptoms or leave you without options. It is designed to help you receive the right care, in the right setting, when medications requiring closer monitoring may be appropriate.

We Are Here to Help

Even when we cannot prescribe a particular medication, we can still help. Our clinicians can evaluate your symptoms, discuss non-opioid treatment options, and help guide you to the appropriate level of care.

If you are experiencing severe, sudden, or potentially life-threatening symptoms, please call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Department.
